By Tara, on March 10th, 2011% Hey knit-along-ers! How’s your Betiko coming?
I am absolutely, completely smitten with mine (out of my handspun!)
Except…
Can you see my mistake? Yeah, those yarnovers were supposed to be creating wedges…but I created a spine…
But That’s ok! When I realized it, I just started wedging and all is well.
How’s yours coming?
Don’t forget that you can share your progress on Ravelry or Facebook.
Oh, and if you’re still on the fence about getting a Betiko Bundle, here’s your warning: Monday’s the last day to get one! The two-color kits are nearly sold out, so hop on over there.

Come see me at Urban Craft Uprising today and tomorrow! And on Monday, stop by Twisted PDX at around 5pm to say hello!
See you soon!
By Tara, on December 1st, 2010% This weekend the Blonde Chicken (and all the yarn) is setting out on a westward tour.
On December 4-5, I’ll be at Urban Craft Uprising in Seattle.
This is my third time to this show and I absolutely love it and my darling Seattle yarn-lovers and well, everything about Seattle (especially the yarn shops. And the cupcakes. And the coffee). The last December I was here, I sold out by 1p on Sunday. Get all the details right here.
On December 6th, I’ll be at my (first!) trunk show at Twisted PDX.
It’ll be, piles of yarn, a spinning wheel and snacks. Come, chat, shop, knit. I am really looking forward to the opportunity to just sit around with yarn-lovers. No crowd, no rush, just hanging out. Get directions right here.
Even if you can’t make it to say hello, I’d love to know your favorite place to eat, . . . → Read More: Westward Bound Chicken

I’m not doing any math to see where, exactly, I should be in my knitting-a-sweater-in-one-month challenge, but I think it’s safe to say I’m behind!
If I have 3 balls of yarn and 30 days, I should be going through a ball every 10 days. It’s Day 9 and I am far from the end of the first ball.
The good news is: I have about 6 hours in the car around Thanksgiving and then all the knitting while sitting around with family. So I’m not worried yet.
Remind me I said that when I’m scrambling on Day 29, ok?

By Tara, on November 1st, 2010% November=NaKniSweMo!
This month I’m attempting to knit 50,000 stitches. Or, a whole sweater. This is a knitter’s version or NaNoWriMo (whereine writers attempt to write a novel in a month). NAtional KNIt a SWEaterMOnth, in it’s 4th year, is organized by the brave KnitGrrl, Shannon Oakey.
The Sweater
I’m knitting the Featherweight Cardigan by Helen Fettig. I spent, oh, an embarrassing amount of time thinking about what yarn I would make this in, before settling on the designer’s own kit. It comes with the fabulously squooshy Malabrigo laceweight, which I got it in Pearl.

The Wait
I had hoped to share my OWN pictures of the yarn + pattern today, but sadly, it hasn’t arrived yet. While most of the knitters have already swatched and are ready to go, I’m eagerly awaiting delivery!
The good news: USPS tells me it will arrive today! Yay!

By Tara, on October 22nd, 2010% Have you ever seen a sheep being sheared? No matter how many times I watch it, I’m amazed every time. Earlier this month I helped my mom plan a Shearing Day for her farm. We sold some tickets, had coffee, cinnamon rolls and yarn. But the main event was the shearing, which my little brother captured in these videos.

Everyone wants to know: what will we do with the wool? Well, I’d love to tell you that you can find it in the shop, but you can’t! This year we’re keeping both fleeces to wash, card, spin and knit into sweaters for us. But don’t worry, there’s plenty of woolly things in the Boutique.
