Change of Pace

Monday night, spinning along and *snap*, one of my treadles falls to the ground.
I look down and see this:
Broken Wheel :(

Ack! I broke my wheel!

A quick question to Twitter and I soon learned that little broken part is called a conrod.

I ordered a replacement (and an extra!) within minutes but until it comes, my wheel is out of commission.

I was desolate. This week I’d scheduled many spinny hours. After being on vacation last week, I missed my spin-time!

But this could be good

While wondering what I could do to replace spinning, I realized this is the perfect opportunity to focus on making more fiber bundles. These bundles (I’m looking for a better name, any suggestions?) have all the fiber you need to spin one of my favorite yarns.

Like Daffodils:

daffodil fiber

Available here, it’s all the fiber to spin this:

daffodil yarn

I have a few more ideas up my sleeve that I’ll share this week but I’d like to hear from you.

What other yarn would you like to see a fiber bundle for? What color combinations do you love?

  • Hm, fiber bundle names. “Fiber” sounds a bit too much like breakfast cereal for me, although of course fiber people don't see it that way

    Spinnable Clouds
    Spin Packs
    Wheel-Ready Bundles
    Spinnables

    OK, I got nuthin'.

  • Aw, man! That stinks, hope your part comes soon!

  • what about little spinny bumps? is that cornball? lol… I like it.

  • Ha! Try telling people you're going to a “fiber festival” – they tend to think you're really into nutrition!
I like Spinnables – it sounds…snack-able! Like tasty little morsels of spinning goodnes!

    Thanks!

    Fiber kits:)

  • Hugs on breaking the wheel but yay to finding else something else to do in the time.

While weaving I've broken treadles and threads – the treadles are easy to fix – merely a matter of retying the cord that holds the treadle but broken threads are evil and require much trickier to fix…

  • I like Spinnables too but it doesn't surprise me that wordsmith Sonia came up with such awesome names.

  • anything that makes me think of sorbet makes me want to knit. (weirdly related in my head.)

    my favorite sorbet flavors:
    -grapefruit.
    -coconut.
    -lychee.
    -pear.
    -cassis.

  • [...] past week has been less-than-fun. With my wheel breaking and just the general blah-ness of re-entry to the real world after a lovely vacation, I need a [...]

  • I had almost exactly the same thing happen to me 2 weeks ago 5 minutes before the start of Maker Faire (I was supposed to do 2 solid days of spinning demonstration – heaven!) After a moment's panic, we loosened the screw (mine snapped at the top), cleared the old plastic out of the wood, reinserted the rest of it and tightened the screw about halfway. I expected it to spin oddly as the conrods were now different lengths (by almost 1/2 inch), but I found no noticible difference. It felt the same and worked just fine for the rest of the weekend without any further snafus.

  • Holey mackerel! I am so sorry about your wheel.

  • Oh my goodness, this is such an obvious, simple fix! Now I'll know what to do next time!

    Thank you!
