Or, How to Stop Worrying + Start Loving Twitter
You know about Twitter, right?
And that it’s supposed to completely change your business and make it awesome and provide you with all these chances to share your thing?
But even though you have a fabulous thing-to-share, Twitter gives you hives.
You don’t know what to say.
You don’t want to seem slimey.
You wonder if you’re doing it right.
In its short little life, Twitter has built up a whole pile of shoulds.
You should be clever.
You should link to your thing.
You should NOT link to your thing.
It leaves you wondering – what is the right way to use Twitter?
My answer:
There isn’t a right way.
You don’t need those shoulds.
The only should you should follow: do your own thing.
But how? How do we get rid of these shoulds?
We explore the good stuff Twitter can bring to your life and then we figure out what you really want out of Twitter and how you can get that, without wondering if you’re doing it right.
And then we hang out on Twitter for a while, just doing our own thing. Together, so it’s maybe less icky and lonely.
And here’s specifically how we’ll do it:
- 2 classes, each about an hour
- Prettily, typed-up summaries of each of the classes
- Worksheet to help you APPLY what you learn in class!
Class 1: Twitter = “Should”?
- Quick run-down of the basics of using Twitter
- Metaphors to help handle the overwhelming-ness
- How I use Twitter
- How to figure out what YOU want out of Twitter (worksheet included!)
Class 2: De-Ick Twitter
- Share your thing without being spammy
- Followers? What followers?
- Value in 140
- Making time for Twitter
The entire de-icking package is
$39

I recently offered this class to a private business-focused group and here’s what they had to say about it:
What I really liked about the course was that you immediately set up an atmosphere that got everyone to relax and feel comfortable. I spent a lot of the class laughing.
I liked your class because you basically allowed us to define what we wanted to get out of twitter and also showed us a variety of ways in which it could potentially be used. It helped me a lot to get some clarity on why and how I’d be using twitter.
The teleclass format was great because unlike all of the other resources on the Internet, in this class we were listening to a real live human being who knew what kinds of fears and anxieties we had around twitter and could address them. And obviously all of those online resources don’t offer a Q&A session.
Since your class I’ve become a lot more comfortable tweeting and now I actually enjoy it, whereas before I was confused about how it could be at all useful or fun. And your class definitely helped with the beginner’s anxiety that I was feeling when I first started.

Still have questions?
How does this work?
When you click “Register”, you’ll be taken to a Paypal page to pay (you don’t have to have a Paypal account).
Once you’ve paid, you’ll get an email with the link to the recordings.
You can download and listen to the recordings whenever you like!
Download a class? Huh?
I taught this class to a live group, on the phone.
What you’re downloading is the mp3 recording (and summary!) of these lectures.
Who is the class for?
Anyone who wants to enjoy using Twitter (and maybe grow their business with it) but is overwhelmed by all the shoulds they’ve heard.
You’ll find it particularly useful if you own a business, especially one where you are the voice, the face, the hands of the business.
Do I have to be on Twitter?
This class is for anyone who feels overwhelmed by all the things they should be doing – from getting ON Twitter, to using it the “right way”, to adding value.
I know these piles of “shoulds” are keeping you from enjoying Twitter and from allowing it to help your business in an organic way. I want to help you get rid of these “shoulds“.
If the “shoulds” of Twitter have kept you from even joining, you might learn quite a bit about what it’s like. But you won’t be able to implement any of the practical steps, until you sign up.
But I don’t want this to be another should, so let’s take it slow.
Go to Twitter.com and just pick a name and password.
Don’t worry about anything else. Really.
If you feel overwhelmed by the next steps, come back here and sign up for the class…
I’ve been on Twitter forEVER, will I learn anything in this class?
One way I de-ick-ify Twitter is by reminding you that everyone uses Twitter in a different way. We all have different experiences and we all have different expectations.
If you are ultra-happy with your Twitter experience, then no, you don’t need this class! Go and tweet it up, friend.
If you are not happy with your Twitter experience, then you may find some helpfullness in this class. If you’re feeling sort of icky about Twitter and how you are “supposed” to use it, the class will de-ick-ify it.
Who is the teacher?
Hi, I’m Tara Swiger and I’m the teacher.
I’m the owner of both Blonde Chicken Boutique, an online yarn shop filled with my handmade yarn, and A Novel Yarn, a bricks & mortar shop in Jonesborough, TN.
I credit Twitter for a huge portion of my business’s success. My time on Twitter has garnered my business publicity in the press (local newspaper, knitting magazines and business books) and has brought me into contact with my very favorite customers.
Despite that, I STILL believe there’s no right or wrong way to do Twitter – it’s about having fun and getting to know people!
