Name a New Color!

(Scroll down to learn how to win a free skein of yarn!)

Hemp Laceweight is easily the most popular yarn I dye.

As soon as I list it in the shop, it sells out.
As soon as I bring it to A Novel Yarn, it sells out.

Because of it’s fly-off-the-shelf qualities, I’ve been dyeing the same 5 colors:

Grape

Azalea

Pumpkin - Hemp Laceweight
Pumpkin

Leaf - Handdyed Hemp Laceweight
Leaf

fog hemp

Fog

And now I have a big cone of unddyed hemp and I’m ready to try something new!

Is one of the above your favorites or would you like a different color?

Leave your suggestion in the comments below and NEXT Friday I’ll choose 1 response (randomly).

The winner will win a free skein of hemp in the color they suggest and that color will be available in the next hemp update (whether it’s a new color or current color doesn’t matter, just tell me what you like!)

Emerald or jade... but this should be no surprise coming from me :-)

Hi, I found a link to your site on Ravelry. That hemp yarn looks lovely. I love the fog - it's just the right colour for a project I'm planning - but I'd also like cranberry and/or teal.

I'm with all of the red/purple folks-- a nice cabernet color would be wonderful! (Does the hemp take saturated colors well, though?)
  • "Painting the Roses Red" - I love a good deep red!
  • Elaine
I would truly love to see/buy a lavender blue/periwinkle sort of shade... there is not enough of that out in anyone's line... and the hemp WILL dye that color, as I have dyed natural hemp fabric that color. I would LOVE to have laceweight hemp that I could make a shawl or lacey top to wear over a camisole. You could call it periwinkle or lavender blue (like the child's song, Lavender blue, dilly dilly,... okay I am being silly but it's past midnight!)
  • how about a muted stormy grey-blue? or a medium toned indigo? Gorgeous colors you have there already though, I think I'm in love with grape!
  • Denise Katz
I would love to see a sunshine yellow or a poppy colored red
  • mainebearskin
I would name it Pumpkin Cream or Pumpkin Pudding.
  • I think a light creamy yellow would look great. You could call it squash :)

I'm with the calls for something golden/yellow - that's what seems to be drawing me in right now.

BTW, my husband, when glancing at the screen, observed that the shapes of the skeins reminded him of, well, poo. Boys, eh?

warm, soft, rich browns... like chocolate and coffee. MOCHA!
  • vickyc
How about a nice beet red color? I can't wait to start planting my garden!

It has been snowy and grey for a long time and the sun was finally shining today. My suggestion is a bright golden yellow with a hint of white named Sun. I'm looking out my window and trying to describe "sunny." :)
  • I love the grape. But sunshiny yellow was my first thought.
  • Wendy
    RASPBERRY

What about a deep tomato red? That'd be good to spin for your first chakra!
  • i think black or espresso would be nice.
  • Rhiannon
I'd love to see a soft yellow. "sunbeam"?
  • Even though I haven't ever touched that yarn, I have no trouble understanding that your laceweight hemp is possessed of flying-of-the-shelves qualities! It looks lovely!
I'm not sure why, but the first thing that popped in my mind was Nutmeg. I'd be extremely curious to see what you'd do with that one!

Daffodil sounds like a lovely color for this time of year!
  • golden!!!
  • Had troubles posting before, apologies if this appears twice. I'd love to see a brilliant golden yellow, but based on the more muted tones of the current colors, a true turquoise greeny-blue color would be lovely as well.
  • tattyfraney
I can totally see it in a silvery-grey kind of colour, it would be awsome!
  • Heh, a few of those are colors that I've named my aromatherapy necklaces.
  • SimchasJewels
I really like all of those colors, but would love to see a more intense blue.
  • i would love to see a deep, blue-violet, indigo type color!!
  • I love Azalea! It's a great shade of pink. I've had a hard time finding pinks I like... I instantly think they all look like Pepto Bismo. :-/
  • ywilken
I think a bright lime green or chartreuse would be wonderful in this yarn. You could call it Lime light Artemisia or Key Lime.
I do love the pumpkin color.
  • I'm a pink addict so another pink would be awesome but I would love to see a bright sunshine-y yellow! :D
  • emilylime
I think a dark and dusky gray would be beeeeeautiful! That yarn is just gorgeous in any color, though!
  • i love the pumpkin.

    id like to see "pomegranate".
  • How about a blue-green one called Atlantis?
  • Alice S
Looks like a nice selection of colors. I love azalea. Can't go wrong with any shade of pink!
  • Boring of me, but Leaf is very pretty.
