Month of Love, Day 4: Petal and Leaf

Welcome to the Month of Love, a whole month of couples-inspired yarn!
Have you suggested a couple yet?

I took this photo (below) years ago and I still find that it inspires yarn.

The interplay of yellow petals and green leaves + stems may be the oldest color inspirations, but every new iteration is a discovery.

And in these snowy months full of browns, grays and whites, I need a bit of a refresher on the gorgeousness and saturation of yellow + green.

Today’s yarn is a celebration of that:

Favorite Flowers

Every year, at about this time, I start become besotted with flowers.

(Almost exactly a year ago, I wrote this, and two years ago, I wrote this)

Their colors. Their textures. Their construction.

Double begonias ammmmaaaze me!

My very favorite-ist way to celebrate the flowers is to turn them into yarn.

These are yarns I’ve made in the past (I have a thing for blooming trees, eh?) and I’m ready to be re-inspired.

This year, I want to try some new flowers. But, I need inspiration!

Flowered Inspiration

The rainy weather hasn’t been that conducive to pretty yarn-pictures, but it has been great for yarn-inspiration, in the form of wildly blooming flowers.

This is right outside my front door. Is it a rhododendron?
Last weekend I needed a lift, so I visited the local garden center to look for inspiration in nature. Here’s a little photo-tour:

Yarn Everday #8

A few days ago, I snapped a quick picture of my dogwood tree as I walked in the house.

On the 8th, for the Yarn Everday Challenge, I pulled together some colors inspired by those flowers:

Pink, pale green like the center of the flower, cream (dyed with tea) and brown for the branches (also dyed with tea).

Spun together, they recreate the bit of color and calm that the dogwood adds to my life.

Yarn Everyday Month is underway and going great so far! We have over 90 members in Ravelry group and I haven’t missed a day yet!
Friday, while wondering around campus, I was inspired by these gorgeous cherry trees:

I love how fluffy they look from far away:

Yesterday, Day 3 of Yarn Everday, I pulled out all the fiber I had that might match the cherry blossoms:

pink and green mill-ends wool, handdyed banana fiber and icicle.
I spun it into a fluffy single,

mostly pink with little stripes of green and fluffs of banana fiber.:
