I’ve been snowed in for days.

It’s not that I can’t get out, it’s that the roads are so bad, it’s really not safe. And everything is closed.

So, I’ve been knitting and plotting.
And I need to talk to someone (anyone!) who loves knitting and will understand the impetus to cast one 2 hats in one afternoon. (I finished them both in 24 hours!)

Let’s have a knitalong, shall we?

The pattern is one I made up for a hat class I’ve taught a few times.
Very simple, top-down, perfect for knitters who are new to knitting in the round. In fact, it’s always the first pattern I teach (after you learn to knit and purl and increase).

Crazy fast if knit out of bulky handspun on US11s.

To make it easy to get started, you can get a kit (yarn + pattern) right here.

Or you can buy just the pattern and use any yarn you already have (you can use any weight yarn). Get the pattern here.

Once you have your pattern and yarn, join us knitting it in the Ravelry group.

Who’s in?

PS. See that scarf I’m wearing above? It’ll be the next -along (a crochet-along!)

Videos of the wrap-stitch and the bind-off. And an offer for a free shawl pattern. . . . → Read More: The wrap-stitch and bind-off how-to

If you bought a skein of banana yarn at the Big Crafty last week, you got a free pattern: the Slanty Surprise Shawl.

If you missed it then, you can still get a (free) shawl pattern, by purchasing a skein of banana yarn from the Boutique, in the next week. (Offer ends 8/1)

The pattern is mostly the wrap-stitch (did I make this up? I don’t know!) and it’s a little hard to explain verbally, although it’s super-simple to perform.

Here’s how you do it!

And the bind-off is basically a crochet bind-off…but with your knitting needles. Here’s what I mean:

(behind the scenes note: I am wearing the same skirt in the photoshoot for the patterns and in the tutorials. Different days, same skirt.)

If you have any questions or comments (would you like to see more videos?), leave them in the comments!
